Khawaja Asif rules out impression of rift between govt, Army

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has dispelling the impression that there was a rift between government and army, has said that “Pakistan army is 100 percent keeping away from politics and defending the country’s borders.

During an interview with private TV channel and talking to media persons outside the parliament house he said that government was facing no threat from PTI’s Azadi March, saying that Imran Khan should have full freedom of protest.

“The government is under no pressure whether Imran Khan holds protests or stage sit-ins,” he maintained. He, however, said that it was yet to be decided whether or not PTI would be allowed to hold the long march.

To a question, he said that Article 245 was imposed in Islamabad to save army from legal cases and that it had nothing to do with the PTI’s million march. Imposition of article 245 has nothing to do with any kind of march and decision in this regard was taken in June, he added.

The defence minister admitted that some issues were mishandled in the past. About Model Town carnage, he said that those responsible for the tragedy should be brought to book.

He stated that government would accept any verdict given by the courts regarding Pervez Musharraf’s treason trial and leaving the country.

Talking about the energy crisis he said that no citizen thinks about the saving of electricity.

Ex president Asif Ali Zardari has halted the Chaudhry brothers from politics of destabilizing the democratic system and this was the prime duty of Zardari due to the current situation of the country.
