BD govt has no rights to stay in power: Ershad

DHAKA, (SANA): Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has said that the government has no rights to stay in power as it failed to ensure security of its citizens.

“If necessary, I will wage movement against this unsuccessful government. It has lost its right to remain in power as it has failed to provide security to its citizens and their valuables,” Ershad warned.

He said this while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the party leaders of Shariatpur unit at his Banani office in the capital on Sunday, A Bangladeshi newspaper reported.

Ershad, also the special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the image of Bangladesh has been tarnished due to the ongoing ‘abductions and killings’ across the country.

“There is no guaranty who will become the victim of abductions. The scenario was not like that when I was in power,” he added.

He also criticized BNP and its key political partner Jamaat-e-Islami for their politics of violence and said,” Our movement will be non-violent.”

“During my tenure, movements were waged only in Dhaka. I could have stayed in power if I wanted. But I did not want to remain in power killing people,” he said.

He also criticized former chief justice Sahabuddin Ahmed, saying that the man betrayed him.

Neither, the ruling Awami League nor BNP did anything for the welfare of the country during their tenures, he claimed saying that the country has progressed because of the private sector.

At least seven private banks and 18 insurance companies were approved without any nepotism and politicizations when JP was in power resulting, achievement of six percent GDP, he claimed.
