APHC demands release of pro-freedom Kashmiri leaders

SRINAGAR, (SANA): Terming the arrest of father in place of his son in Sopore and denying his family to meet him as the act of state terrorism and lawlessness, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) demanded the immediate release of Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Batpora Bagaat, Sopore.

Hurriyat said that the state government doesn’t even respect its own constitution and law and Omer Abdullah government has broken all the past records of tyranny rules. Hurriyat also strongly condemned the continuous house detention of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Raja Mehraj-ud-din and said that it has now become the routine of the administration to detain the pro-freedom leaders and it doesn’t have any moral and legal justifications.

In Monday’s press release, hurriyat spokesman said that the police several times raided and searched the residence of a student Mansoor Hassan of Batpora Bagaat, Sopore due to which the said student has gone into hiding to avoid the arrest, police once again raided Mansoors house on 31st July and when they did not find him there, they arrested his father and detained him at an unknown place. The arrested man is the father of five daughters and his wife is suffering from different ailments.

According to the reports received from the locals of that area, when the family members of the Gh. Hassan Bhat visited the Sopore police station, they were not only denied to meet him but they were threatened and terrorized there by the SHO and Munshi of the police station.

According to the local people, the daughters of Gh. Hassan were pressurized in police station to give in writing that their brother has crossed the border for arms training about which they have already informed the police that Mansoor Ahmad has not crossed the border but he is hiding to avoid the police arrest and is staying somewhere outside. After that police didn’t allowed them to meet their father which forced them to protest outside the police station. Police then used violent means and tear gas shelling over the people who were protesting the injustice with the Bhat family, due to which the 9 year old Toufeeq Nabi Bhat and 10 years old girl Zainab got serious injuries and from that time the police is continuously raiding their house and are harassing the inmates there.

While strongly condemning the police action in Sopore, Hurriyat spokesman said that the civil administration is acting as the mute spectator to this situation and have left the common people on the mercy of tyrannical forces. It is the extreme of lawlessness and it has created tremendous threat and fear among the common people. Hurriyat said that it is the grave human rights violation to arrest the father in place of his son and this arrest amounts to the illegal detention of the innocent person.

Meanwhile hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar also strongly condemned the continuous house arrest of the pro-freedom leaders and said that this lawlessness has now become the daily routine and the pro-freedom leaders are frequently confined to the four walls of their houses.

No court order or the written document from the administration is presented for such detention. Geelani sahib is under house arrest from
July 2010 while as Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Ahmad Shah Raja Mehraj-ud-din and many other leaders are in house detention from last one weak.

Hurriyat Conference also strongly condemned the police crackdown on the youth in Kulgam and Tral areas and said that 90’s like cruelties are unlashed upon the people of that areas. Due to the fear of police many students of the area did not attend their classes today which have impacted their studies.

Hurriyat Conference said that the police and army are pushing the common people to the walls and this situation can have serious consequences and the whole responsibility would be on the shoulders of the state administration who are maintaining the criminal silence over this situation.
