Siraj says they want issues should be resolved without creating chaos in country
ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq has said that they want the issues should be resolved without creating chaos in the country. He apprised Prime Minister regarding the reservations of the PTI Chairman Imran Khan while the Prime Minister took him (Sirajul Haq) into confidence over the prevailing political situation in the country.
Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami, Sirajul Haq called on the Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here on Wednesday against the backdrop of turbulent political situation in the country in the wake of the upcoming marches and sit-ins.
The two leaders exchanged views on the prevailing political situation of the country.
On the occasion Sirajul Haq apprised the Prime Minister on his meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. General Secretary of JI, Liaquat Baloch was also present during the meeting.
Sirajul Haq said that his party has made some suggestions to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to end the current standoff on election rigging.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the prime minister as parts of his efforts to defuse the political tension, Sirajul Haq said that it is now government’s responsibility to resolve issues.
“There can be many ways to resolve an issue. Our efforts are focused to avert any possible confrontation on August 14.”
Jamaat-e-Islami too has reservations about the electoral process, he said, saying that some people have been holding the democracy hostage for 65 years.
Amir Jamat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq, Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadees chief Prof. Sajid Mir, Pakistan Muslim league (Zia) leader Ijazul Haq and FATA leader G.G. Jamal called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday. They exchanged views on the prevailing political situation in the country.
Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, and Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal were also present in the meetings
Earlier, Sirajul Haq had a meeting with PTI leader Imran Khan in Islamabad to discuss a way out of the prevailing political situation.
Later, talking to newsmen, Sirajul Haq said he listened to the view point and demands of PTI leader.
Sirajul Haq said he sincerely wants resolution of the issues amicably and he has some proposals in this regard.
He pointed out that there are some elements which want politics of confrontation and create tension in the country. He said issues can be resolved by demonstrating flexible attitude.
The JI leader said his party wants a foolproof system that ensures complete transparency of the entire electoral process in future. He said there was need for the electoral reform committee to expedite its work.
He said JI too has reservations and complaints about the general elections 2013 as rigging took place in Karachi, FATA and many other places as well. He said transparency of elections could not be ensured at many places.
Sirajul Haq said initially Imran Khan was demanding recounting in four constituencies but the Government did not pay heed to his demand.
He said it was duty of the Federal Government to have listened to his grievances and act to redress them. He said the courts too should have disposed of cases relating to electoral irregularities but there was considerable delay in the process.
He said electoral system is very flawed as candidates trampled the condition of not spending beyond three million rupees. Many candidates spent up to half a billion rupees and after election they first try to recover the money spent during elections through whatever means possible.
He said there is need for revolutionary electoral reforms. The JI Amir said they have initiated the process of contacting political leadership so as to avoid confrontation and find solution of the problems through talks.
He made it clear that it is for the Federal Government to demonstrate responsible attitude in addressing the situation. It should listen to the voice of the people and respond accordingly.
Replying to a question he said Imran Khan repeated his invitation to JI for participation in the Azadi March but he told him that JI is busy making preparations for its rallies on August 10 in Islamabad and August 17 in Karachi to express solidarity with oppressed people of Gaza and therefore, a decision would be made after August 10.
