NRO-hit ministers should be sacked, says JI Chief
ISLAMABAD (SANA): Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hassan has demanded of the government to fire the ministers who got themselves acquitted under the National Reconciliation Ordinance.
Addressing a Students’ Convention organized by Islami Jamiat Talaba here on Wednesday, he said, the government should ask Interior Minister Rehman Malik particularly and other NRO-hit ministers generally to resign from their public offices, adding that Malik being the interior minister could influence the National Accountability Bureau and also get the NAB record discarded.
Referring to ‘Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan’ package, he termed it as ‘lolly-pop’, saying that the people of Balochistan could not be consoled unless the FIRs against former president Pervez Musharraf is registered in Bugti’s murder case and Bloch leaders’ killing in Turbat according to their heirs’ will, and the missing persons those include women as well are recovered.
JI Chief said if the government would have taken the Bloch nationalists into confidence before tabling the package in the parliament; it could escape the embarrassment which it is facing now.
Commenting on Indian army chief’s statement about ‘limited war under a nuclear overhang’ he said that government while protesting against the statement should expel the Indian ambassador from the country and call its envoy back from New Delhi.
He said that JI would hold protest demonstrations against Indian involvement into the country’s affairs from 14-16 December. He went on saying India, the US, and Israel is hatching conspiracies against Pakistan nuclear programme. He alleged US wants to shift to Afghan war in Pakistan, therefore the Blackwater has made Islamabad as its center for its activities aimed to destabilize Pakistan.
He, on the occasion, demanded of the government to bring the details of the military operation and investigations of the GHQ attack before the nation. Casting doubts regarding the army’s claim of success in the Swat operation, he said the army is presenting defeated-war of Swat and Malakand as a winning war.
“Chief of Army Staff General Kayani should tell the nation what has been achieved in the military operation during last seven months”, he stated.
He reiterated JI demand of holding polls with the militants, saying that when the US can hold secret talks with the Afghan Taliban then why Pakistan can not go for talks with the insurgents to restore peace in the country.
Instead of announcing Jihad against India the army has forgot its motto and started killing its own people on the directives of anti-Pakistan forces.
IJT Chief Attiqur Rehman and JI leader Mian Aslam also addressed the rally.

So the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) beneficiaries list comes out. The media is happy that those persons who enjoyed taking advantage of the NRO have light casted upon them, while the government is trying to push forward the argument of how they have respected the Supreme Court’s judgment and have publicized the list. It seems to be a win-win situation for all parties. But is it really? Calls for the resignation of ministries and portfolios have echoed from all corners. How has this zero-sum game turned into a finger-pointing-name-calling battle?
