NA approves organs transplantation bill

ISLAMABAD (SANA): The National Assembly Thursday passed unanimously the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Bill. The Bill provides for removal, storage and transplantation of human organs and tissues for therapeutic purposes.

Health Minister Ejaz Hussain Jakhrani piloted the Bill in the House.

The members representing all political parties in the House welcomed the passage of the Bill and said it will help check illegal sale and transplantation of human organs.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated the members for unanimously passing the Bill. He thanked the opposition for its cooperation and demonstrating patriotism on this human issue. He said it is a message of hope to the nation that the government and the parliament attach importance to health.

Earlier, Minister for Planning and Development Makhdoom Shahabuddin laid before the House three Ordinances. These are the Alternative Energy Development Board Ordinance, the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology Ordinance and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Ordinance.

Minister of State for Law and Justice Muhammad Afzal Sandhu laid before the House the Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2009.
