KL act conspiracy to increment US spies in Pakistan: Zaki

ISLAMABAD (SANA): Former Secretary General and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Akram Zaki on Sunday said Kerry-Lugar act is a conspiracy to augment number of US intelligence operators in Pakistan.

He said that US deals India like long-term ally while Pakistan is being used as an instrument resulting in distrust that is running deep.

Zaki said that the bill in question was introduced in the previous Congress as the Biden-Lugar bill aiming to forge relations with people of Pakistan and expand cooperation beyond military matters.

This he said while speaking to Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW). The original bill lapsed in Dec 2008 and the new administration changed its name after altering it to the disadvantage of Pakistan. “We should not expect any good out of this.”

US is promising a good future in return of cooperation but what we get is escalated terror attacks, he said.

At the occasion Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that hundreds of American spies and Black Water officials are already present in the country. The act poses serious threat to our strategic assets. They seem more interested in raids than aid.

He said many political parties have taken a firm stand against NRO. It will be not easy for them to support it in future.

It may be re-introduced with a new appealing name and apparent noble intentions after some deals.

Such moves could be end of morality in politics, he warned. Resignation on moral
grounds is still alien to our political norms.

Burial of NRO, transfer of powers and eliminating controversial constitutional
amendments will not resolve problems of masses like terror, food insecurity, unemployment and inflation.

Imbalance between powers of top officials and indifference to the problems of masses has always invited undemocratic forces, he said.
