Senior APHC leader challenges his repeated house arrest

SRINAGAR (SANA): Senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani has filed a contempt petition in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court against his repeated detention and house arrest in violation of the Court orders.

Syed Ali Gilani has nominated the police officials including the Director General of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Budgam in the petition.

The President of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom will plead the case before the single bench of the High Court.

It may be mentioned here that the authorities had detained Syed Ali Gilani in June for spearheading the agitation against the rape and murder of two Kashmiri women by Indian troops in Shopian.

He was released in early September after the High Court quashed his detention under the draconian law, Public Safety Act at Cheshmashahi Sub Jail.

However, immediately after his release, he was put under illegal house arrest at his residence in Srinagar, which was challenged by him in the court. The court decided the case in his favour calling Gilani a free man.
