Mirwaiz says Obama admn to depute envoy for Jammu, Kashmir soon

SRINAGAR (SANA): chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Mirwaiz has told that the Obama administration would soon name its envoy for Jammu and Kashmir in an apparent attempt to explore ways for early resolution of the lingering Kashmir saga.

Mirwaiz expresses these views while speaking in a seminar at APHC headquarters. The seminar was organised to express solidarity with Kashmiri detainees and pay tributes to late Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq and others, who laid down their lives for the freedom cause.

Underling the need for sustaining dialogue for early settlement of Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that Hurriyat Conference (M) is ready for dialogue adding however decision in this connection will be taken with enhanced deliberation.

He informed that he could not make public all the details his recent visit to New York, as the people with whom he interacted there had urged him to remain “silent till concrete measures for Kashmir solution are not announced”. “The two statements from Indian leadership, within a month, are enough to indicate how many important developments have taken place vis-à-vis Kashmir solution,” he remarked.

“Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh said that separatist ideology has lost relevance in the state in the wake of people’s participation in the assembly elections, and that no future dialogue will be held with the separatist.

Mirwaiz said that after less than a month, Indian home minister P. Chidambaram said that dialogue process would be soon started with Kashmiri leaders.”

Mirwaiz said that Kashmiris have achieved great successes at international level for the last couple of weeks.
“The people will soon hear good news. Like OIC, the United States will also appoint its envoy for the state soon. During my visit to New York, I met with some important personalities, especially those persons who have strong relations with the government of India. They appreciated and supported the Kashmir cause and assured me that they will play their role in resolving the genuine freedom struggle,” he noted.

Congratulating US President Barack Obama for winning the noble peace prize, Mirwaiz says, “Obama administration has made Kashmir issue one of its top agendas. His administration has categorically told the Indian establishment, despite signing the nuclear deal with them, that peace and development will only be achieved in entire south Asia, when Kashmir issue is settled,” he said.

Mirwaiz said that United States and other countries are using their influence in bringing India-Pakistan and Kashmiri leaderships closer.

Referring to the proposed talks with the centre, he said that the talks with New Delhi should not be considered their (Hurriyat’s) weakness.
“We are suffering. Our people are being killed and interrogated. We must start the dialogue process with New Delhi and Islamabad. It is a deliberate attempt of some quarters who want the dialogue process to remain stalled and the conflict in Kashmir to continue,” he said. “We will put in all our efforts to resolve this conflict through dialogue, but we will not take any decision in haste,” he said.

Mirwaiz reiterated that consensus would be build after taking other pro-freedom parties into confidence before taking any initiative on talks.

“Right of self determination is our common goal. All the pro-freedom parties should have no problem in working together. We will approach all the pro-freedom parties to seek their support so that a common strategy and common programme is framed,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, veteran separatist leader and former APHC chairman, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat said that they were not going with begging bowls to New Delhi for talks. He said that the Hurriyat Conference (M) considered it as its responsibility to inform people before taking any decision on talks with New Delhi.
In his address, provincial president of Hurriyat Conference, Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that government of India was using different tactics to sabotage the ongoing freedom movement, “but the concern and attachment shown by the people time and again with the freedom struggle is in itself a success.”

He went on to say that were still languishing in different jails without any trial and it was the responsibility of the Hurriyat leadership to provide them legal assistance.
JKLF senior leader, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, speaking on the occasion said that government of India has adopted divide and rule policy in the state. The APHC was broken by New Delhi only to strengthen its occupation in the state, he said, and added that the biggest tribute to the late Mirwaiz and other martyrs would be to follow their agenda.
Another senior separatist leader Aga Syed Hassan AL-Mosavi, Moulvi Tari, Masroor Abbas and others also spoke on the occasion.
