Pakistan fails to achieve tax target set by IMF

ISLAMABAD (SANA): The Federal Board of Revenue has missed its tax collection target of Rs 11.79 trillion for the last fiscal year (2008-2009), a private reported on Thursday.

This target was a revised one, down from the orginal Rs 13.5 trillion, and approved by the IMF.

The sources said that the Pakistani government had, however, assured the fund in April in Dubai that it would meet the target. But till June 30, it was off the mark and only managed to collect Rs 11.55 trillion.

This may present difficulties for Pakistan as it is scheduled to hold meetings with the IMF from Friday in Dubai.
