ITP alleged of discrimination

ISLAMABAD (SANA): Many residents of the federal capital have alleged that the Islamabad Traffic Police ITP are in a habit of imposing fines on ordinary people for slight mistakes but avoiding to issue challan tickets to the elite class paying no heed to the traffic rules.

According to complainants, the traffic police issue challan tickets to the commoner for mistakes like violation of traffic signals, no use of seat belt, exceeding speed and faults in headlights while they take no notice of such violations by the politician or any other high profile person.

“He was getting late’ the police simply reply, when asked that why they let the rich man go despite violation of rules,” said a complainant Ejaz.

It’s ironical that last night at Jinnah Avenue when a car green plate number driven at a speeding exceeding 90 km/h, was stopped but forgiven due to his high status, said another complainant Farhad.

Senior Superintendent Police (traffic) Sultan Azam Temuri rejecting the allegation said a number of VIPs have been fined over violation of traffic rules [in Islamabad] among them were federal ministers, MNAs, senators, secretaries and nine provincial ministers.

He said that the efforts of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to ensure safe road environment are bringing fruitful results with more sense of responsibility now among road users and also a significant decrease in the accident rate.
