Minister terms uncontrolled population growth mother of all insecurities

ISLAMABAD (SANA): Uncontrolled population growth in the country should be viewed in security perspective since all insecurities are linked to over population, Federal Minister for Population Welfare; Dr Firdous Ashiq said on Tuesday.
 
Eradication of extremist trends from the society is only possible under proper sharing of resources and approach of masses to the opportunities, thus the population planning and development are vital for maintaining harmony and peace in the society, the Minister said in a statement issued here.

The Minister emphasized for integrated donor support for addressing the key population related issues and dissemination of basic life facilities to the people at large.

She said that the Ministry of Population has chalked out comprehensive policies for addressing mother and child, reproductive health, public welfare and family planning matters, however; these initiatives need donors support for implementation in letter and spirit.

Regarding Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Swat, the Minister said that the government departments were active on the ground to ensure proper facilitation of them at different camps especially in Jalala, Jalozai, Shah Mansoor and Sheikh Yasin areas of the NWFP.

She said that the Provincial and Federal Population Welfare Minist1ries and allied organization National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) was also actively engaged in relief activities.

“We are strengthening the provincial population welfare ministry and backing its activities to reduce duplication of efforts at the ground,” the Minister said.
