Nayeem again under house arrest

SRINAGAR (SANA): Jammu Kashmir National Front has strongly condemned the house arrest of its chairman and Hurriyat Conference (M), provincial president, Nayeem Ahmad Khan.

A NF spokesman said that Khan was barred again from offering Friday prayers. He was released on Thursday after 20-days of house arrest.

“Government of India once again made its oppressive policies evident by not allowing the Hurriyat leaders to come out of their home. The fact remains that it is afraid of the popularity of the Hurriyat leadership,” the statement said, adding, “Such tactics reflect the undemocratic attitude of the government.”

Meanwhile, Khan, had yesterday visited the house of late Bashir Ahmad Sofi, who was recently crushed to death by an army vehicle at Pampore in south Kashmir.

Paying rich tributes to Shaheed Sofi, he expressed solidarity with the bereaved family including his children.

Khan in a statement had said, “Bashir played a great role in the freedom movement and for the welfare of the people of Kashmir. In his martyrdom Kashmir lost a great leader.”

Later on, Khan had visited Lasjan to console the family of late Khushbu, daughter of Abdul Qayoom Miron, who was trampled to death by an army truck last Monday.

Khan also visited the house of late Romana, who died after she was hit by car at Hyderpora while going to her home.

Terming Romana’s death a shameful act, Khan said, “Our youth need to get moral education and inculcate in themselves the quality of respect for others especially women.”
